L.M. Preston loved to create poetry and short-stories as a young girl. She worked in the IT field as a Techie and Educator for over sixteen years. Her passion for writing science fiction was born under the encouragement of her husband who was a Sci-Fi buff and her four kids. Her obsessive desire to write and create stories of young people who overcome unbelievable odds feeds her creation of multiple series for Middle Grade and Young Adult readers thirsty for an adventure. She loves to write while on the porch watching her kids play or when she is traveling, which is another passion that encouraged her writing.
Oh my, let me tell you, the title for this was so hard to come up with. I’d written half of it before I even knew what to name it. Purgatory Reign is actually based on a short story my husband wrote for his writing class in college about twenty years ago. His story was based on the big secret that Peter Saints’ blood reveals. However, his short story didn’t have a title.
THE TITLE NAME GAME:
So, after I let my teenage daughter read the first draft, she and I worked on various titles. I only wanted it to be two words or less, and it had to relate to the struggle of Peter or sum up the book’s conflict. We had come up with three possible titles, but the problem with the other titles is that they had been used before many times. I came up with the word Purgatory to describe where Peter’s state of mine was. He was caught in between and felt like he was on alone. But the play on the second word Reign, was for a period of time in his life and within the story that something evil was in charge. So the play on words described the story and was a powerful combination.
TESTING THE TITLE:
Once I finished the draft and sent it to beta readers, I asked them what they thought of the title compared to two other titles I had. All of them selected Purgatory Reign, and so it stuck.
