The companion to the highly emotional, scandalous and USA Today Bestselling love story – LOVE, IN ENGLISH – is finally here! Love, in Spanish is a Love, in English follow-up novel told from Mateo Casalles’ POV. While Love, in Spanish touches on some events that happened in LIE (you know the ones!) it is a whole new story set a year later that continues with Vera and Mateo’s “happily ever after.” Note: It should be read after Love, in English and it is mostly new material (aka not just rehash of LIE). *** “She sat beside me on the bus – and she changed my whole life.” Successful, wealthy and absurdly handsome – Spanish ex-football player Mateo Casalles seemed like he had it all. A high-society wife, an adorable little girl, and flashy apartments in Madrid and Barcelona only sweetened the deal. But there was more to Mateo than met the eye – a life of uncertainty and regret that colored his black and white world. That was until Vera Miles came into his life like a shooting star. Tattooed, wild and young, Vera seemed like Mateo’s polar opposite at first. But you can’t choose who you fall in love with and the two lost souls did everything they could to be together, all while suffering the grave consequences. Now with Mateo divorced and living in Madrid with Vera, there is a whole new set of challenges and setbacks facing the couple and rocking the foundation of their star-crossed relationship. Unfortunately for them, the brighter the star, the faster they burn. ***Love, in Spanish contains the first two chapters of Where Sea Meets Sky, a full-length Love, in English spinoff starring Vera’s brother, Josh Miles, coming March 2015 from Atria Books***

review

Omg. This book knocked my socks off. I wish I could come up with something better to say, but Karina Halle has done it again. I didn’t post my review of the first book Love, in English but you can find it here. I figured I would give you all a break from my love affair with Karina Halle books. I don’t think she’s written a bad one yet!

Love, in Spanish is a great follow-up. It was engaging and intriguing from the moment I opened it, I had planned on waiting to read it, but it spent a day calling my name, and I just couldn’t resist. I’m so glad I didn’t wait, Vera and Mateo are just one of THOSE couples. The ones that when you read the synopsis, you think ‘Well isn’t that disgusting. What awful people, why would I want to read about that!?’ Give it a shot, trust me. I won’t say that Mateo and Vera are perfect people, they aren’t. However, they are good people, with good hearts, who fell in love and made a mess. But when isn’t love messy? It will always grab your chest and squeeze, and so I can understand where Mateo and Vera were coming from.

This book was fantastic, because it shows the aftermath. It shows that it takes effort, even after you give up something for the person you’re with. I loved that they still had challenges, and while they were similar to what they went through in Love, in English, it was different because they were living together. I think that there should definitely be more sympathy for Isabel. I know that she’s kind of a witch, but I can understand why she would be so hurt and angry. The only thing that bothers me is what she says to Mateo at one point about love. She got a beautiful daughter out of her marriage, and even if she was hurt and angry there are some lines that should never be crossed.

I really felt like Vera should have grown up a little bit, she was still acting pretty immature. I get she wants to party, but Mateo has a daughter, and a life he needs to look respectable for. They don’t have to stay indoors, but maybe doing the bump and grind on another man is not appropriate. I did like that Mateo and Vera were both committed to making it work, despite all the obstacles. I think it bodes well for their life together, that they learn how to stay connected.

I just love Karina Halle’s writing. The emotion that her characters evoke is absolutely stellar. I read because it’s an addiction, and Karina Halle is the #1 drug. I give Love, in Spanish 5 amazing stars! Check this out if you love contemporary romance!
