Violet is on the run. After the Duchess of the Lake catches Violet with Ash, the hired companion at the Palace of the Lake, Violet has no choice but to escape the Jewel or face certain death. So along with Ash and her best friend, Raven, Violet runs away from her unbearable life of servitude.

But no one said leaving the Jewel would be easy. As they make their way through the circles of the Lone City, Regimentals track their every move, and the trio barely manages to make it out unscathed and into the safe haven they were promised—a mysterious house in the Farm.

But there’s a rebellion brewing, and Violet has found herself in the middle of it. Alongside a new ally, Violet discovers her Auguries are much more powerful than she ever imagined. But is she strong enough to rise up against the Jewel and everything she has ever known?

The White Rose is a raw, captivating sequel to The Jewel that fans won’t be able to put down until the final shocking moments.

Book Trailer:

reviewThe White Rose had my pulse going, it was a heart-stopper from beginning to end. We finally start learning  more about this world and what makes it up. It makes for an interesting read, and Violet stopped being so damn whiny. The previous book it didn’t really feel like she and Ash had much in common. To be honest, I still don’t feel like they do. This book did showcase some differences that I think are only going to grow.

There was also a better explanation for the surrogates, and why they are able to manipulate and perform ‘magic’. It was interesting to read about that, and it was definitely enlightening looking back on the first book. My initial low star rating was mostly based off of all the unanswered questions that were left and that hadn’t even been started to be answered. This book goes along way in solving those shortcomings.

I really loved the character development in this book, as Violet really grew and matured. However, I am not exactly happy with the ending. The last book ended on a major cliffhanger, and this book is no different. In my opinion ending in the middle of a scene is a terrible way to continue a series. I shouldn’t have to feel forced into buying the next book just to get to a point of resolution. All in all though I would give the book 4 out of 5 stars, because it really did improve on the initial book.
