Alien queen Kora has a problem as vast as the endless crimson deserts. She’s the first female ruler of her territory in generations, but her people are rioting and call for her violent younger twin brother to take the throne. Despite assassination attempts, a mounting uprising of nomadic human rebels, and pressure to find a mate to help her rule, she’s determined to protect her people from her brother’s would-be tyrannical rule.

Eros is a rebel soldier hated by aliens and human alike for being a half-blood. Yet that doesn’t stop him from defending his people, at least until Kora’s soldiers raze his camp and take him captive. He’s given an ultimatum: be an enslaved bodyguard to Kora, or be executed for his true identity—a secret kept even from him.

When Kora and Eros are framed for the attempted assassination of her betrothed, they flee. Their only chance of survival is to turn themselves in to the high court, where revealing Eros’s secret could mean a swift public execution. But when they uncover a violent plot to end the human insurgency, they must find a way to work together to prevent genocide.

– What is your inspiration for writing?

I kind of get inspiration from everywhere—movies, TV shows, books, my everyday experiences, listening to other people’s life experiences, daydreams, random stories I made up with my best friend, etc. I firmly believe inspiration can come from anything if you pay attention, so I try to keep my mind open at all times.

– Did you always envision yourself being a writer?

I wouldn’t say always—when I was really young I had aspirations of being a doctor until I realized I was squeamish, among other things. But I decided at thirteen that I wanted to be an author and I’ve been working toward that aspiration ever since.

– Are you currently writing another novel?

I just recently finished revisions on one manuscript, so now I’m kind of between projects. Which is fine, because it means hopefully soon I’ll come up with something totally new to work on. 🙂

– Do you have a favorite character?

I have lots of favorite characters, but some of my absolute favorites include Nikolai Lantsov from the Grisha series (Leigh Bardugo), and Kash from The Girl from Everywhere by Heidi Heilig.

– Name 3 fun facts about you

  1. I learned Spanish before I learned English, but as my family’s primary language shifted to English, I forgot a lot of it. Now I understand it well enough and have native pronunciation, but my grammar and vocabulary are atrocious.
  2. I wrote nine books before writing Beyond the Red, most of which will probably never see the light of day again.
  3. I’ve moved four times (not counting college moves), lived in three states, attended three colleges (including an art college), and will have two degrees when I graduate with a Bachelor’s at end of April.

10 winners will receive a finished copy of BEYOND THE RED, US Only.
