We all fall down.
Some will have to grapple with new powers; all will be damned to a hellish new existence of plague, brutality, desolation, and cannibalism. Find out who they lost, why they endure, and what they sacrificed in order to live past Day Zero. . . .

I really liked that this was a series of novella’s. It was very nice to see these Arcana from another point of view. There were chapters from a few Arcana that we haven’t met in the books. I don’t remember if the Star is already dead like a few of the other Arcana chapters, but I enjoyed his so much. I really felt his pain at his parents being so callous, and I thought that with everything he would make a great addition to Team Evie. I think what Day Zero shows is how these kids (and they are just kids) are really put in these horrible positions. Even the ones who knew what was coming were still scared and frightened, and didn’t want to be part of the game. It’s unfortunate that they can’t simply choose to sit out because by doing so means their death. I think that Day Zero is the perfect taste to gear up for Arcana Rising, and that it gives great insight into characters that we don’t get to see much of in the series. I would give it a 3.5 out of 5 stars.
