The battle for the Crown has begun, but which of the three sisters will prevail?

With the unforgettable events of the Quickening behind them and the Ascension Year underway, all bets are off. Katharine, once the weak and feeble sister, is stronger than ever before. Arsinoe, after discovering the truth about her powers, must figure out how to make her secret talent work in her favor without anyone finding out. And Mirabella, once thought to be the strongest sister of all and the certain Queen Crowned, faces attacks like never before—ones that put those around her in danger she can’t seem to prevent.

In this enthralling sequel to Kendare Blake’s New York Times bestselling Three Dark Crowns, Fennbirn’s deadliest queens must face the one thing standing in their way of the crown: each other.

One Dark Throne kept the characters moving forward, in fact that was one of my favorite things about it. It didn’t really slow down at any point. These characters really made my mom heart hurt. 3 sisters who are supposed to love and care about each other, but they’re trying to kill each other. It really makes for a sad yet intriguing read. Especially between Arsinoe and Mirabelle.

Katherine is just straight up crazy, there is a long process of figuring out what happened to her when she was thrown in the pit. Her portions of this book were just so strange to read, because the changes even from the last book are obvious. That Katherine was more timid, willing to be led, and confident that her gift was very very weak. Of course the big reveal in the last book is that Arsinoe and Katharine were switched.

I really loved the plot build up in this one. It answered questions that were brought up in the last book, but also gave me new questions and a burning desire to understand more of how these girls ended up at such odds. I am really enjoying this series. It’s well written, the plot and world building is fantastic, and I’m dying to know what happens to Arsinoe and Mirabella! I would give this book 5 stars, which is a surprise because generally speaking the middle book is the weakest link. Not this one!
